Internet Demographics

There are various estimates of the number of World Wide Web users today, the generally excepted number for the USA is greater than 30 million users (Source: FIND/SVP 1997).  An indication of how explosive the growth has been in the last several years is the growth in Web servers online.  In the beginning of 1994 the number was estimated at 1,250 while in mid 1997 it is estimated there are over 1,000,000 (Source: GVU's Seventh WWW User Survey).   The overall awareness of the World Wide Web has exploded as well, today you see the web address accompanying advertising for all sorts of businesses in all markets.  This rush to the Web has been fueled by the belief that this media will become the next major commercial market place.   The demographic data that follows is an indication of the intranet users in the USA and around the world.  It represents nearly 20,000 responses, the majority of which were from the USA.
